Reception for Kristen Garlow Piper In-Person

Kristen Garlow Piper, a Hutchinson native, graduated in 1976 from the William Allen White School of Journalism at the University of Kansas with a degree in Photojournalism.  She worked for several newspapers before going into freelance work in the 1980s.

In 2009 she returned to Hutchinson, where in addition to her freelance photography, she also documents historic buildings and renovations.  Garlow Piper also is a regular contributor to Kansas! magazine and serves as the photographer for the Kansas Cosmosphere and other area organizations.  She is the owner of Kristen Garlow Piper Photography and has twice been the artist-in-residence at the Red Barn Studio in Lindsborg.

"As a photojournalist my photography tends to have a storytelling aspect, and the photographs in “Home Again” are a part of the story of how my hometown looks today.  For me they stir up feelings of my childhood and what it’s like to be home.  In the coming years - wherever I’m living - I’ll be able to look at these images and remember my Kansas roots and know where I’m from."
